Description 

Course Description: In this 16-hour course, students will receive hands on training in application/use of tourniquet, NPA, and chest seals as well as wound packing, and pressure bandages. The student will develop/enhance their skill, judgement, and decision making, related to the application of tourniquets, pressure points, use of hemostatic gauze, pressure bandages and direct pressure in the field to quickly and effectively stop blood loss as well as recognize signs and symptoms of some major life-threatening internal injuries caused by trauma. Students will also develop/enhance their skills involving mass casualty events including recognizing what a mass casualty event is, effective triaging and treatment in a mass casualty event as well as casualty movement.

Students will receive lecture, practical application and scenario-based training utilizing sim-rounds, interacting with live role players as well as manikins. Students will need to bring their duty vest and belt on the second day for scenarios, minus any weapons, ammunition, knives, tasers, baton’s, OC spray, distractionary devices, or any additional items that would pose a safety hazard. Who Should Attend: This course is recommended for all sworn law enforcement personnel as well as non-sworn law enforcement affiliated personnel who interact with the public within the community ie: Community Services Officer’s.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will receive POST certification for 16 hour TEMS/FRO TacMed course.

Additional Information: This course will utilize simulation blood throughout the two days as well as sim-munition rounds during scenarios on the second day, all safety and scenario equipment will be provided by CA DOJ but attendees are welcome to bring their own sim-munition full face mask which will be checked by instructors to ensure it meets safety requirements.

Day 1:

`Students may dress informally in clothing and shoes attendees are willing to get dirty/possibly stained. Dark color clothing is best. Bring personal safety glasses if possessed as they will be worn for the duration of the course

Day 2:

    Students will need to bring their patrol belt and load bearing vest (No firearms, ammunition, OC spray, taser, baton, knives or any kind of weapon during scenarios)

    Students may dress informally in clothing and shoes they are willing to get dirty/possibly stained.

This class is a POST Plan IV reimbursable class for travel and per diem reimbursement, and students will receive 16 hours of POST CPT credit upon successful completion. Tuition is $314.00 per student, payable by check or money order to the CA Dept. of Justice.
